July 29: Diana Saenz Features at Stone Soup Poetry

Diana Saenz has been writing since 1964, at the age of 16, when she attained her first typewriter by saving Green Stamps. This instinct for the advantage of technology has never waned. Neither has her commitment to the written word. Her life in the arts, surrounded by actors, playwrights, poets, dancers, artists, and writers, is the gift that writing gave her, and for this she is ever humble and grateful.Diana is a native of Los Angeles, where she encountered her first writers at East L.A. College, and was part of the community in the early 70s, mixing with activists of every sort, from the Chicano Renaissance of graphic artists and writers, in magazines like Con Safos, to the Brown Berets to the Revolutionary Communist Party. After she was evicted from the RCP, she made her way to San Francisco, joining the vibrant poetry scene, which included forces of nature like Jack Hershman, Joie Cook, and Bob Kaufman, and where she morphed into performance poetry. From there, she traveled overseas and lived in London, mixing with the thriving community of poets. Upon her return to San Francisco, performance poetry led to playwriting and a decade in the Theatre community, particularly the Latino Theatre Artists Association, which included Cherie Moraga, Josefina López, and Octavio Solis. She and others established Sangre, a multicultural theatre company, and produced a number of plays.
Feeling burnout, Diana moved to France before returning to this hemisphere, where she settled in Montreal, Canada for six months before her visa expired, then moved to the East Coast after a year in Alabama, where she wrote The Book of Eve. In Cambridge, Massachusetts, she found that there was no calendar for poets like Poetry Flash in San Francisco, and established the Boston Poet Calendar and Magazine, which was later run by Debbie Burn. Later, she established BostonPoet.com and created an interactive calendar that anyone could populate with their poetry announcements. She met her husband, Marshall Harvey, at TT The Bears, a popular Stone Soup Thursday night Poetry Venue in the 1990s run by Jack Powers. Together, she and Marshall published the works of other poets, including Bad Ass and Virgin Voyage, which featured C.C. Colins, Meg Smith, Afaa Weaver, Walter Howard, and Raffy Woof.
After twenty years on the East Coast, one Spring—not up for another nor’easter—Diana returned to her native California in 2013, where she wrote her first novel. She eventually settled in Murrieta, CA, 60 miles south of Los Angeles. There she tried comedy for a year, but could not get past the misogynistic and politically reactionary side of it, or the late, late, very late nights. But she did learn to overcome her fear of performing off-book.
Today, Diana continues to write political articles on Substack, books, and the occasional poem. She is active in the Temecula Valley Atheists Meetup group, teaches yoga (having received her certification earlier this year), and is currently working on a yoga manual for seniors to be published in September.

Goldfinger is also a member of the Liberation Poetry Collective and is included in the Liberation Anthology put out by the Trilingual Press. He is currently the poetry editor and a regular columnist for the Spare Change News, a paper put out for the benefit of homeless people. He is a member of The Road Scribes of America, a motorcycle club whose members have been published throughout the world. He also has his own website at http://marcdgoldfinger.outlawpoetry.com/ where he also has books and a down-load of Getting Fixed In South Carolina, a true story of an event in his life, arranged and performed by The Jeff Robinson Trio, for sale. Marjorie Pezzoli is a poet, visual artist, and silk painter.
Her
writings cover all emotions, from grief to joy. Since 2019 her poetry
has been curated in printed anthologies and online publications: A Year
in Ink, Complete the Haiga, dadakuku, Heterodox Haiku, Mad Swirl,
Palabra: Open Mic, San Diego Poetry Annual, Setu Journal, The Pan Haiku
Review, and others. In 2025, Marjorie was given the Setu Award of
Excellence for Art and Literature, and Program Coordinator for the Haiku
of America Virtual Conference.
She works on promotional material for the Southern California Haiku Group.

May 27: Susan Deer Cloud Features at Stone Soup Poetry

Susan Deer Cloud, a mixed lineage Catskill Mountain Native, is the recipient of an NEA Literature Fellowship and two New York State Foundation for the Arts Poetry Fellowships. She has been published in numerous literary journals and anthologies, and her most recent book is The Way to Rainbow Mountain. Since being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017, she has gone roving in South America, Europe, and Alaska (hey, “Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose”). She is on a quest, seeking human beings who embody the original name for her Iroquois ancestors, the Shining People. She makes pilgrimages to places whose genius loci is still powerful in a beautiful and sheltering way. During this perilous time she knows freedom can be an easy word to toss around, but she is resolved to keep making a stand for the kind that sparks soaring creativity, tenderness, and love.

Glines, in addition to being the editor of Wilderness House Literary Review, is an essayist, journalist, storyteller, occasional poet and bon vivant. His motto is, “The best is barely good enough.” Steve has published seven books, only two of which might be considered even remotely “literary,” a travelogue about Fiji and a novel, Poplar Hill. He has been published in Ibbetson Street, the Belmont Citizen, the Littleton Independent, Unix Review, Technology Review and the Boston Globe among others. He has never been published in the Paris Review, the Antioch Review, Crazyhorse, The Atlantic Monthly or the Kenyon Review. To these awesome credentials it should be added that he has never received a McArthur Award nor been nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. Still, for some reason, people like what he writes and, on occasion, even pay him for it.

Harris Gardner co-authored Chalice of Eros with Lainie Senechal (Stone Soup Press). His second book, No Time for Death, was published in published February 2022 (Cervena Barva Press); 2 chapbooks: Lest They Become (Ibbetson Street Press) and Among Us (Cervena Barva Press). In addition to Sixty publication credits. he has served as Poetry Editor for Ibbetson Street since 2010 and co-founded both the Tapestry of Voices and Boston National Poetry Month Festival with Lainie Senechal which ran from 2001 to 2021. He is the Founder and curator of eight poetry venues. His current venue, the First and Last Word Poetry Series with Co-Host Gloria Mindock, has been running since 2010.
Harris is the recipient of several awards and citations including the Sam Cornish Award from New England Poetry Club in 2023.

Arthur "Stratusfier" Williams is a neurodivergent poet who aims to provide meaningful representation and amplify the neurodivergent voice within his communities. He believes that a mental health diagnosis or comorbidity does not have to be a source of shame, fear, or a life without determinism. An artist does not have to be one who pulls works from inspiration born of manic heights, crippling lows, or the tumultuous and often traumatic experiences that result from their effect. Those of us who are “too much” are more than enough in the right setting with the right support. That all genius exists in those people who are willing to find the holes in their world, and their thinking, and fill them with something they created if it does not exist. And that having the willingness and ability to affect, and be affected, by someone else through expression, in any facet of life, is the definition of poetry in motion. Stratusfier is a proud facilitator with Writers Without Margins and recently a Peer Mentor with The NAN Project. Richard W. Spisak Jr. began life as a professional light artist with Mel Tanner of Lumonics. Then worked with master Lumist Kenven Lyman of Dazzleland Studios. Richard has been a Writer/Producer/Director in Live Theatre, TV, and radio, for 30 years. He has contributed editorial essays and cartoons to a wide array on newspapers and periodicals and e-zines. He continues to publish his editorial cartoons on the Web. He has published two short story collections Two Small Windows, in a Pair of Mirror Doors, and "Between the Silences". In 2022 Richard published his collected poetry, 7370 Allen Drive. In 2024 he published Stone Poetry and in 2025 his latest poetry collection, No Noise has been released into the wild. Richard W. Spisak Jr. began life as a professional light artist with Mel Tanner of Lumonics. Then worked with master Lumist Kenven Lyman of Dazzleland Studios. Richard has been a Writer/Producer/Director in Live Theatre, TV, and radio, for 30 years. He has contributed editorial essays and cartoons to a wide array on newspapers and periodicals and e-zines S, he continues to publish his editorial cartoons on the Web. He has published two short story collections Two Small Windows, in a Pair of Mirror Doors, and "Between the Silences". In 2022 Richard published his collected poetry, 7370 Allen Drive. In 2024 he published Stone Poetry and in 2025 his latest poetry collection, “No Noise” has been released into the wild. Richard produces, Poets of the East, a webcast which features poets from Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
