August 11: John Stickney features at Stone Soup Poetry

 

Amidst the global pandemic, Stone Soup Poetry has been offering an online open mic via Zoom for anyone interested. This continues to receive an amazing response, and we appreciate everyone's participation.

On Wednesday August 11, John Stickney takes time from being on the road to have his first feature since becoming our online friend.

John Stickney has been a poet and writer for 40 plus years, first in Cleveland, Ohio, now in Wilmington, NC. The recipient of an Individual Artist Grant Award for Poetry from the Ohio Arts Council, his poems have appeared in numerous anthologies and magazines (including Oddball Magazine, Pocket Lint, Exquisite Corpse, Medusa’s Kitchen, Alien Buddha Zine, and North of Oxford). John has performed his work on the radio and television, and his work has been performed by others both on stage and set to music. His work has published in two collections: Works of art are like questions or problems put by their inventor to the public at large (PA Press) and These Americans Moments (Burning Press). He has published book reviews, interviews and featured articles, as well as Art reviews and criticism. 

His short fiction has appeared in Mississippi Review, ThugLit, Needles, Beat to a Pulp among others. His authored short monologue, “ Pandemic Travels” and authored short film, Hungry were released in two separate programs via Eventbrite in 2021. John is currently a member of The Writers of the Forest, Port City Playwrights’s Project, the North Carolina Poetry Society, The Ohio Poetry Association and the North Carolina Writers Network.

August 4: Gloria Mindock Features at Stone Soup Poetry

On Wednesday August 4, we welcome poet, editor and publisher Gloria Mindock, who is celebrating the release of her latest collection.

Gloria Mindock is the author of Ash (Glass Lyre Press), I Wish Francisco Franco Would Love Me (Nixes Mate Books), Whiteness of Bone (Glass Lyre Press), La Portile Raiului, translated into Romanian by Flavia Cosma (Ars Longa Press, Romania), Nothing Divine Here (U Šoku Štampa, Montenegro), and Blood Soaked Dresses (Ibbetson St. Press). Widely published in the USA and abroad, her poetry has been translated and published into eleven languages. Gloria is editor of Červená Barva Press and was the Poet Laureate in Somerville, MA in 2017 & 2018. Her book Ash was awarded the Speak Up Talk Radio Firebird Book Award in July, 2021. Ash is also translated into Serbian by Milutin Durickovic and will be out shortly by ALMA Press in Belgrade.

July 28: Laura Kiesel Features at Stone Soup Poetry

On Wednesday July 28, we welcome Laura Kiesel and celebrate her new collection, Swallowing the Stem of Adam’s Apple.

Laura Kiesel is a longtime poet, essayist and journalist. Her articles and essays have appeared in The Atlantic, The Guardian, the Washington Post, Vice, Vox, Ozy, Narratively, Salon, The Manifest-Station and many others. Her poems have been featured in upstreet, Medulla Review. Fox Chase Review, Blue Lake Review, Stone Highway Review, Noctua Review, Naugatuck River Review, and Wilderness House Literary Review. Originally from Brooklyn, New York she now lives in the Boston area where she teaches creative nonfiction, literary journalism and poetry at Grub Street and Arlington Center for the Arts. She is the servant of two adorable but demanding cats and has a habit of staying up way too late at night, usually reading.

July 14: Andrew K. Peterson Features at Stone Soup Poetry

On Wednesday July 14, poet Andrew K. Peterson closes out June for Stone Soup.

Andrew K. Peterson is the author of five poetry books, most recently A Blue Nocturne Notebook (Spuyten Duyvil Press, 2021). His 2017 chapbook The Big Game Is Every Night was mailed to the White House as part of a collective protest alongside publications from the Locofo Chaps series. A previous chap bonjour meriwether and the rabid maps (Fact-Simile Press) was featured in an exhibition on poets’ maps at the University of Arizona’s Poetry Center. His poetry was also included in The Earth Archive exhibit at RISD Museum. In 2017 he helped co-wrangle at the Boston Poetry Marathon. A co-founding editor of the literary journal summer stock, he lives in Boston.
