October 11th: Susan Deer Cloud Returns


Stone Soup Poetry meets from 8-10 p.m. every Monday at the Out of The Blue Art Gallery at 106 Prospect Street with an open mike sign-up at 7:30 p.m. On October 11th, we celebrate the return of Susan Deer Cloud.

Susan Deer Cloud is a Métis Catskill Native of Mohawk/Blackfoot and some Seneca lineage. She has received various awards and fellowships, including a National Endowment for the Arts Literature Fellowship, a New York State Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, a Chenango County Council for the Arts Literature Grant, First Prize in Allen Ginsberg Poetry Competition (twice), Prairie Schooner’s Readers’ Choice Award, and Native American Wordcraft Circle Editor’s Award for her multicultural anthology Confluence.

Deer Cloud’s poems and stories have been published in numerous journals and anthologies (Sister Nations: an Anthology of Native Women Writers on Community, Unsettling America & Identity Lessons multicultural anthologies, American Indian Culture & Research Journal, Yellow Medicine Review, To Topos (Poetry International), Mid-American Review, Poet Lore, Spoonful, Ms. Magazine, Prairie Schooner, Many Mountains Moving, North Dakota Quarterly, Quarterly West, Earth’s Daughters, Shenandoah, Exquisite Corpse, Pembroke Magazine, Stone Canoe, Paterson Literary Review, Helicon Nine, etc.).

She has edited multicultural Confluence and Native anthology I Was Indian (Before Being Indian Was Cool), plus the 2008 Spring Issue of Yellow Medicine, a Journal of Indigenous Literature, Art & Thought (she is now an adviser to Yellow Medicine). Currently she is editing the Re-Matriation Chapbook Series of Native Poetry being brought out by FootHills.

Deer Cloud’s most recent books are The Last Ceremony and Car Stealer (FootHills Publishing) and her collection of poems, Braiding Starlight, is forthcoming from Split Oak Press. Her Persian cat with a Chinese name, Wu Wei, purrs when Susan reads her Indian poetry in the middle of the starry nights.

October 4: Mary Alexandra Agner Features




Stone Soup Poetry meets from 8-10 p.m. every Monday at the Out of The Blue Art Gallery at 106 Prospect Street with an open mike sign-up at 7:30 p.m. On October 4th, widely published poet Mary Alexandra Agner makes her first visit to our venue.

Mary Alexandra Agner writes of dead women, telescopes, and secrets.

She is the author of The Doors of the Body (Mayapple Press 2009) and The Scientific Method (Parallel Press 2011). Her poems have appeared in North American Review, Boxcar Poetry Review, Isotope, and other magazines.

She was born in a United State made for lovers and currently lives outside Boston. Her family tree bears Parson Brown oranges. Her advanced degrees include Earth & planetary science and creative writing. She’s blessed to have a paying job that utilizes both of them.

All her life she’s observed the universe and written about it.

September 27: Gloria Mindock Features



Stone Soup Poetry meets from 8-10 p.m. every Monday at the Out of The Blue Art Gallery at 106 Prospect Street with an open mike sign-up at 7:30 p.m. On September 27th, we celebrate the return of poet, editor, performer and publisher Gloria Mindock.

Gloria Mindock is the author of La Portile Raiului (Ars Longa Press, 2010, Romania), Nothing Divine Here (U Soku Stampa, 2010, Montenegro), and Blood Soaked Dresses (Ibbetson Street Press, 2007).

She is the editor of Cervena Barva Press, the Istanbul Literary Review, an online journal based in Istanbul, Turkey, and co-editor of X-Peri. She has had numerous publications including Poet Lore, River Styx, Phoebe, Blackbox, Poesia, Bogg, Ibbetson, WHLR, UNU: Revista de Cultura, Citadela, Aurora, and Arabesques. She has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize, a St. Botolph Award, and was awarded a fellowship from the Massachusetts Cultural Council distributed by the Somerville Arts Council. Gloria’s press, Cervena Barva Press, was just awared a SUR Translation Program Award from Buenos Aires, Argentina to publish a book by Luis Raul Calvo with translation by Flavia Cosma.
September 20: Zeke Russell Features





Stone Soup Poetry meets from 8-10 p.m. every Monday at the Out of The Blue Art Gallery at 106 Prospect Street with an open mike sign-up at 7:30 p.m. On September 20th, we debut local up and comer Zeke Russell, who debuts his brand new chapbook at our venue.

Zeke Russell Is a third generation poet who has been writing since the age of 10. He was a contributor to the Lowell based performance/art magazine Outlet. He was the organizer for the Sultan Of Lowell Presents open mic series. He is currently a regular at the Mill City open mic and slam and was a semifinalist for that venue’s 2010 National Poetry Slam competition team. You can often find him at the Cantab Lounge on a Wednesday night, explaining over a glass of beer, why Lowell is superior to Cambridge. He also serves as the Master of Ceremonies for In Spite of Life players’ annual Fourth of July Parade and Satire play. He has recently self published a chapbook Short Poems about Dead People, through Sergeant Press.

September 13: Diana Saenz and Marshall Harvey at Stone Soup

Stone Soup Poetry meets from 8-10 p.m. every Monday at the Out of The Blue Art Gallery at 106 Prospect Street with an open mike sign-up at 7:30 p.m. On September 13th, Stone Soup welcomes the return of poets Diana Saenz and Marshall Harvey.



Diana Sáenz is a native of Los Angeles California, and has been writing poetry since the age of 15. Her plays have been produced around the country, and she is has three books of poetry presently for sale: An Ordindary Life Discussed, The Book of Eve, and Just This side of the 3rd Millenium. Diana and her husband, Marshall Harvey, whom she met in 1995 at Stone Soup Poetry when it was at TT The Bears, are the editors of Boston Poet Publication.

Her plays have been produced across the U.S. Her poetry has been staged in co-productions in theater and dance. She is on the Board of Directors of The National Boston Poetry Festival, and the founding editor of Boston Poet Magazine, and present editor of bostonpoet.com.




Marshall Harvey has been published in numerous journals and is the the author of Painted Light, published in 1994. He has also written a novel (The Psychic Lover) and an acclaimed study on iambic pentamet ("Iambic Pentameter from Shakespeare to Browning"). He is currently working on a theory on art.
