March 6: Stone Soup Presents Open Mic Memories of Old America

Stone Soup Poetry meets every Monday from 7-9 p.m. every Monday at the Out of The Blue Art Gallery, now at its new location at 541 Massachusetts Avenue in Central Square Cambridge, Massachusetts. On March 6, we presents our first themed open mic based on one author's compelling essay.

In the early days of Donald Trump's presidential victory, Sarah Kendzior (shown above) wrote the following:

Write down what you value; what standards you hold for yourself and for others. Write about your dreams for the future and your hopes for your children. Write about the struggle of your ancestors and how the hardship they overcame shaped the person you are today.

Write your biography, write down your memories. Because if you do not do it now, you may forget.

Write a list of things you would never do. Because it is possible that in the next year, you will do them.
Write a list of things you would never believe. Because it is possible that in the next year, you will either believe them or be forced to say you believe them.
What have you done your best not to forget in this new America? Quick, write them down now and bring those words to the open mic on Monday! It will do good to remind yourself and the rest of us what may have been already forgotten.

February 20: Stone Soup's Open Mic Ode to The Sore Winners of The World

Stone Soup Poetry meets every Monday from 7-9 p.m. every Monday at the Out of The Blue Art Gallery, now at its new location at 541 Massachusetts Avenue in Central Square Cambridge, Massachusetts. On February 20, come to our open mic and read along to this week's theme (or read whatever work you like).

For all the talk of special snowflakes and young people who can't accept not getting what they want, there are more and more people from prior generations who get everything they want but still want to maintain their status as persecuted underdogs. The very definition of a sore winner. Maybe you've seen one or two on the news lately?

Join Stone Soup this Monday
on February 20 and bring your own ode to these fragile egos and the gold crosses they get nailed to with the help soon-to-be deported immigrants. Or ignore the theme altogether and read anything you like! You have five minutes!

Stone Soup Open Mic February 6: It's Our Parade Tonight

Stone Soup Poetry meets every Monday from 7-9 p.m. every Monday at the Out of The Blue Art Gallery, now at its new location at 541 Massachusetts Avenue in Central Square Cambridge, Massachusetts. On February 6, our open mic series continues.

Later this week, we'll have a parade making a hell of our commute and celebrating people who otherwise would not care about us (something about last night, I don't know). What would you say in the 100% unlikely event they would give  you the mic? Come out tonight and let your voice be heard for just a fraction of the advertising money spent last night.
