September 29: Denise Washington Features at Stone Soup Poetry

Amidst the global pandemic, Stone Soup Poetry has been offering an online open mic via Zoom for anyone interested. This continues to receive an amazing response, and we appreciate everyone's participation.

On Wednesday September 29, we close out September with poet and organizer Denise Washington.

Denise Washington, was born and raised in Roxbury, Massachusetts. She was a METCO student who graduated from Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Television Production / Creative Writing from Emerson College and her Master of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from Wheelock College.

For quite some time she lived in North Hollywood and worked as the assistant to the producer for the WB sitcom "The Wayan Brothers Show" and as a production coordinator and worked her way up to a team writer for the HBO sitcom "Arli$$.

She is an Elma Lewis School of Fine Arts alumni, a voice student of the late John Andrew Ross and Ed Bullins is her playwright mentor.

Currently, she is an educator in the Boston Public School System nurturing souls on a daily basis. She also enjoys teaching meditation, Yoga & Zumba to the children, their families and school staff!

Denise is the Founder, CEO and Producer of #Pop-Up Poetry series, A Denise Plays Hard Event, coming to a neighborhood near you!” This concept was birth with her second grade class students at the Mather Elementary School.

On April 22, 2018, to commensurate National Poetry Month, her first #Pop-Up Poetry series was in a garden. Her students, their families and people from the community came. Haywood Fannell was the Guest Poet, a host of students, their family members, friends and poets from the community dropped a verse and a rhyme.

Since April 22nd 2018, Poetry has been popping up across the City of Boston and beyond! Denise has met so many talented people along the way, of different ages, and walks of life that have a love for poetry, and enjoy using this platform to share their poems!

This is also a health & wellness venture! Did you know there are some health benefit to listening and writing poetry? It improves cognitive mood, well being and stress, just to name a few.
