February 12: Damon Features at Stone Soup Poetry

Stone Soup Poetry meets every Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 at our new location, the Fort Point Arts Community's Assemblage Gallery, located on 70(a) Sleeper Street, just across from the Barking Crab restaurant (free admission but donations for features are appreciated). On February 12, Stone Soup welcomes another exciting new voice to our podium. Read below to find out more about the poet Damon.

"My name is Damon, I’m an old soul living in young man’s body. Thoughts flow through mind a thousand miles a minute. I’m honest person who lives my truth and not a shame of it. My poetry comes from observational point of view, life experiences, and the vibes around me. Poetry to me opens the soul to learn, to feel, to manifest one’s inner self. I am the truth of reality, I am prophet."

February 5: Rachael Hershon Features at Stone Soup Poetry

Stone Soup Poetry meets every Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 at our new location, the Fort Point Arts Community's Assemblage Gallery, located on 70(a) Sleeper Street, just across from the Barking Crab restaurant (free admission but donations for features are appreciated). We kick off February 5 with Rachael Hershon, who reads at Stone Soup Poetry for the first time.

Rachael Hershon's work has appeared in Amaryllis Poetry, Bop Dead City, and Random Sample Review, among others. Her work largely revolves around the themes of home, family, and sexuality. She is originally from Framingham and currently teaches English in the greater Boston area.

January 29: David P. Miller Features at Stone Soup Poetry

David P. Miller’s collection, Sprawled Asleep, was published in late 2019 by Nixes Mate Books. His chapbook, The Afterimages, was published by Červená Barva Press. His poems have recently appeared in Meat for Tea, Hawaii Pacific Review, Turtle Island Quarterly, poems2go, riverbabble, Nixes Mate Review, The Lily Poetry Review, Peacock Journal, Redheaded Stepchild, The Blue Pages, and What Rough Beast, among others. He is a member of the Jamaica Pond Poets.

His poem “Add One Father to Earth” was awarded an Honorable Mention by Robert Pinsky for the New England Poetry Club's 2019 Samuel Washington Allen Prize competition. With a background in experimental theater before turning to poetry, David was a member of the multidisciplinary Mobius Artists Group of Boston for 25 years. He was a librarian at Curry College in Massachusetts, from which he retired in June 2018.

January 15: Terry Orlando Jones Features at Stone Soup Poetry

Stone Soup Poetry meets every Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 at our new location, the Fort Point Arts Community's Assemblage Gallery, located on 70(a) Sleeper Street, just across from the Barking Crab restaurant (free admission but donations for features are appreciated). On January 15, we welcome the multi-talented veteran performer Terry Orlando Jones to the podium.

Terry “Orlando” Jones, a native of Dorchester, is a man of many talents and has been involved in the music business for over 15 years. Terry is musically inclined and has a very strong musical background. He is very skillful, and talented when it comes to his music. “Music is the love of his life and is energy for his soul."

January 8: A.J. Odasso Featuires at Stone Soup Poetry

Stone Soup Poetry now meets every Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:00 at our new location, the Fort Point Arts Community's Assemblage Gallery, located on 70(a) Sleeper Street, just across from the Barking Crab restaurant (free admission but donations for features are appreciated). Join us on January 8 as we kick off 2020 with a feature by visiting poet A.J. Odasso.

A.J. Odasso’s poetry has appeared in a variety of publications, including Sybil’s Garage, Mythic Delirium, Midnight Echo, Not One of Us, Dreams & Nightmares, Goblin Fruit, Strange Horizons, Stone Telling, Farrago’s Wainscot, Liminality, Battersea Review, Barking Sycamores, SWAMP Writing, Belmont Story Review, New England Review of Books, and Rascal. A.J.’s début collection, Lost Books (Flipped Eye Publishing), was nominated for the 2010 London New Poetry Award and was also a finalist for the 2010/2011 People’s Book Prize. Their second collection with Flipped Eye, The Dishonesty of Dreams, was released in 2014. Their third collection, The Sting of It, was shortlisted for the 2017 Sexton Prize under a former title before being published by Tolsun Books in 2019. Their prose has appeared in the Hidden Youth (Crossed Genres) and Knowing Why (Autistic Self-Advocacy Network) anthologies, as well as in the Winter 2017 and Spring 2018 issues of Pulp Literature. They hold an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Boston University and serve as Senior Poetry Editor at Strange Horizons magazine.

December 18: Suzanne O’Toole Features at Stone Soup Poetry

Stone Soup Poetry now meets every Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 at our new location, the Fort Point Arts Community's Assemblage Gallery, located on 70(a) Sleeper Street, just across from the Barking Crab restaurant (free admission but donations for the poet(s) appreciated). On December 18, Suzanne O'Toole has her first Stone Soup feature.

Suzanne O’Toole is a Boston-based spoken word poet who enjoys acting and particularly loves lending her voice to several characters on various podcasts. She can be found playing the voice of Janet’s mother, Theresa Clarke, on the space-themed time-traveling show Solutions to Problems. Most recently, she can be heard voicing the Honorable Margaret Fly on the newly released surrealistic podcast Wait Wait Don’t Teleport Me. Her poetry has been published in The Canton Citizen, Canton Writes (volumes 2014-2019), and Oddball Magazine. She welcomes acting, voice work, & spoken word opportunities and can be reached at suzanne.m.otoole@gmail.com.

December 11: Stone Soup Particpates in the Fort Point Holiday Stroll

Join various Stone Soup poets on December 11 from 6:00 to 8:30 PM as they take part in the Fort Point Holiday Stroll, performing on the open mic and for visitors to the Assemblage Gallery, located on 70(a) Sleeper Street, just across from the Barking Crab restaurant. A fun time will be had by all as we introduce ourselves to the Fort Point community.

NEW DATE November 20: Lexi Wight Features at Stone Soup Poetry

On November 20, we kick off the new month with poet Lexi Wright.

Lexi Wight spends her day attempting to help bridge worldwide cultural gaps, and her nights immersed in multiple different art forms. Throughout the week, you can find her loitering at some of her favorite spots. These include Bill's open mic jam in Newton, where she has been knighted, and the Lizard Lounge’s Poetry Slam, where she has been featured. She has also been part of the Lizard Lounge slam team for the past three years, during which they performed in the Nationals in Atlanta, Denver, and Chicago. In addition she has been a guest on 87FM’s Smokin’ Rhymes and the Boston Stoops podcast. You can find recordings of her poems on Soundcloud.

November 13: Kelly DuMar Features at Stone Soup Poetry

Stone Soup Poetry now meets every Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 at our new location, the Fort Point Arts Community's Assemblage Gallery, located on 70(a) Sleeper Street, just across from the Barking Crab restaurant (free admission but donations for the poet(s) appreciated). On November 13, Stone Soup will be introduced to the work of poet Kelly DuMar.

Kelly DuMar is a poet, playwright, and writing workshop leader who has published three poetry and prose chapbooks, including her most recent, girl in tree bark, published by Nixes Mate. All These Cures is published by Lit House Press, and Tree of the Apple, is published by Two of Cups Press. Kelly's poems are published in Bellevue Literary Review, Tupelo Quarterly, Tiferet, Crab Fat and more, and her plays have been produced around the US and are published by dramatic publishers. She produces the Our Voices Festival of Boston Area Women Playwrights, held at Wellesley College, now in its 13th year, and she produces the annual Boston Writing Retreat and weeklong summer Play Lab for the International Women’s Writing Guild where she is a longstanding board member. Kelly inspires readers of #NewThisDay - her daily photo-inspired blog - with her mindful reflections on a writing life on the Charles River.

October 23: Special Open Mic and Workshop with Toni Bee

Stone Soup Poetry now meets every Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 at our new location, the Fort Point Arts Community's Assemblage Gallery, located on 70(a) Sleeper Street, just across from the Barking Crab restaurant. On October 23, Toni Bee returns to her Stone Soup stomping grounds to host an open mic and workshop.

Former Cambridge Poet Populist, host of numerous open mic events and workshops, and author of the chapbook 22 Again, Toni Bee is no stranger to the stage or to writer's groups. Everyone should come and bring poems to read, poems to workshop or writing tools so you can participate in what Toni has planned.

Bil Lewis to Receive the 2019 Jack Powers Stone Soup Savor Poetry Prize

The Jack Powers Stone Soup Savor Poetry Prize was created in 2009 by Sophia Marshall in conjunction with Jack Powers and Margaret Nairn.

For 2019 we have selected Bil Lewis. We are grateful for his ongoing contributions to the Stone Soup open mic in it's multiple locations this year.

We hope you will be able to attend the full night of celebration at Stone Soup this Wednesday on October 2, when they'll be presented their prize by Sophia Marshall, who is also that night's featured poet.

October 16: Stratusfier Features at Stone Soup Poetry

Stone Soup now meets every Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 at our new location, the Fort Point Arts Community's Assemblage Gallery, located on 70(a) Sleeper Street, just across from the Barking Crab restaurant. On October 16, we welcome Stratusfier as he graces the Stone Soup stage for the first time.

Rapper, Poet, Old Soul, and Positive Thinker. This is Stratusfier. A soul-traveling artist that uses rap and poetry to condense light after exploring his own darkness. He has been a coach for the 2016 UMass Boston CUPSI team. He has been published in Oddball Magazine. His features include Comic-Con, Rapping with the Writers, and The Monson Free Library.
